Hi I'm Jennie!
About me & Qualifications
My Why
My journey into speech and language therapy was inspired by my younger brother, who experienced speech difficulties in early childhood. Witnessing his experiences, and the impact of the right support at the right time, sparked my passion for this profession..
In 2022, I made the decision to set up as an independent therapist after many years in NHS and school settings. While I valued that experience, I increasingly felt frustrated by systems that did not always allow for truly personalised, child-centred therapy. Working independently allows me to offer flexible, individualised support, centred on what genuinely matters to each child and family.
My Approach
I take a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach, grounded in acceptance, inclusion and respect.
I work alongside children, young people and their families to understand:
What is important to them
What is important for them
The strategies, tools and accommodations that will best support their communication, participation and wellbeing
I recognise that communication differences are not deficits to be fixed, but differences to be understood and supported. My role is not to change who a child is, but to help them access the world in ways that feel safe, meaningful and empowering.
This means:
Prioritising regulation, safety and connection
Valuing all forms of communication, including AAC, echolalia and non-verbal communication
Working at the child’s pace
Supporting autonomy, confidence and self-advocacy
Collaborating closely with families, schools and other professionals
I consider the whole person, recognising the impact of communication, sensory needs, emotional wellbeing and environment. I am experienced in working with complexity and with children who have multiple co-occurring needs.
My work is always person-centred, respecting each individual’s values, culture, identity and preferences. I recognise that no two children are the same — even if they share a diagnosis — and therapy is tailored accordingly.
A Note from Me
Working with children, young people and their families is a genuine privilege. Together, we build on communication skills that supports meaningful relationships, self-expression and lifelong connection.
My work is grounded in creating a safe, trusting environment where individual differences are respected. Children and young people are supported to expand their communication in ways that feel authentic and empowering.
